4D/3N: Scarlet-banded Barbet & Cordillera Azul Antbird
This expedition stands out for the search of two very particular endemic birds. Both species of birds are of great interest to the birdwatcher market, due to their rarity and difficulty of observation; and in the case of the Scarlet-banded Barbet is the cover image of the book ” Birds of Peru”.
The Scarlet-banded Barbet (Capito wallacei), has a very restricted distribution, near the Cordillera Azul National Park, between 1300 and 1500 meters above sea level; it has a striking white throat, a scarlet breast stripe and a yellow belly, different from all the other barbudos.
In the case of the Cordillera Azul Antbird (Myrmoderus eowilsoni), the species was discovered in 2016, it is endemic and is also of very restricted range, it is a terrestrial species, inhabits forests with high and dense canopy; they are rufous-colored on the upper part of their body with a moderately long tail and black wing coverts.
