5D/4N: Hummingbirds Route

The expedition aims to observe approximately 50 hummingbird species. The highlight is the Marvelous Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis), an endemic species of Peru and recognized as the most beautiful hummingbird in the world.

ITINERARY

DAY 01

Koepcke’s Hermit

The trip begins in Tarapoto city, where we visit the surroundings of the Cordillera Escalera Conservation Area to observe the Koepcke’s Hermit within other representative species of hummingbirds and birds of that sector.

At the end of the day, we make wildlife sighting at night around Moyobamba, where owls and other nocturnal wild species are the highlights.

DAY 02

Hummingbirds of the Alto Mayo Protected Forest

On the second day of the expedition, we depart from Moyobamba to the Alto Mayo Protected Forest, where we look for species such as Rufous-crested Coquette, Wire-crested Thorntail, Long-tailed Sylph and Booted Racket-tail. In addition, this day we will enjoy a breakfast with local inputs from a natural reserve and high-quality organic coffee.

The sleeping site is a local lodging in the middle of the woods of Alto Mayo and Abra Patricia.

DAY 03

Royal Sunangel & Long-whiskered Owlet

The third day we stay in the surrondings of Alto Mayo Protected Forest, Abra Patricia and Pomacochas lagoon. This day we look for Royal Sunangel, Long-tailed Sylph and Booted Racket-tail. At night we will make wildlife sighting looking for the Long-whiskered Owlet.

The sleeping site is a local lodging in the middle of the woods of Alto Mayo and Abra Patricia.

DAY 04

Marvelous Spatuletail

At fourth day we focus to see the Marvelous Spatuletail. In addition, we look for Ecuadorian Piedtail y White-tipped Sicklebill. Finally, we return to Moyobamba to make wildlife sighting at night around Moyobamba, where owls and other nocturnal wild species are the highlights. We sleep in a local lodging.

DAY 05

Rufous-crested Coquette & Orchids

The last day we do birding close to Moyobamba city and look for the Rufous-crested Coquette and the Great-billed Hermit.

Finally, we move to the airport in Tarapoto city when the service ends.

It includes guide services, payment of entry to tourist sites, lodging, food, land, and river transfers, activities, use of telescope or binoculars and information materials.
