WILDLIFE & PHOTOGRAPHY IN SAN MARTIN
The San Martin region is located in the northeast of Peruvian territory, on the eastern flank of the Andean mountains to the Amazon basin, with altitudes ranging from 140 to more than 4,000 meters above sea level and crossing six life-zones (according to Holdridge’s classification).
These characteristics allow the territory to present a great variability of ecosystems, a large number of species of flora and fauna, and presenting high rates of endemism for species of birds, amphibians, flora, mammals, among others.
Based on this natural richness, Ikam Expeditions has designed travel proposals that allow visitors to experience the natural and cultural reality of the main natural areas in the region and to understand their life characteristics and be able to understand the importance of their maintenance.
In addition, all services and activities are based on constant monitoring of fauna and flora by Ikam Expeditions staff and nature site managers.

The Alto Mayo Valley is composed by the provinces of Moyobamba and Rioja, in the San Martin region, being one of the most impressive jungle landscapes of Peru that has a great diversity of ecosystems and wildlife.
The presence of the Alto Mayo Protected Forest, which protects the upper basin of the valley, stands out. In addition, there are other natural spaces such as the Alto Mayo wetlands, The Morro de Calzada, and the Alto Mayo caves, among others.
This particular scenery of contrasts and altitudinal differences allows for the presence of diverse species, especially endemic ones, such as birds, mammals, reptiles, among others.
